On our trip to the California coast at the end of the summer, we had time to head south from Bodega Bay to the little town of Point Reyes Station. One of our favorite getaways in California is the Bodega Bay area, usually camping at Lawson’s Landing in the Tomales Bay area. As we live in the Sacramento area, this is the closest ocean getaway from our home base to camp (actually we “glamp”), that doesn’t cost a small fortune. It seems like everything along the coast is getting more expensive.
Along our way down the coast, we stopped to have chowder at one of the little restaurants along the way … not impressed with their chowder, however. Our favorite is still from Spud Point in Bodega Bay. But we are always willing to try new places.
One of the things to do in Point Reyes is Wine Tasting
We also stopped at Point Reyes Vineyards (of course) just north of town. They had their award-winning wines open for tasting and left with a nice dessert wine.
We traveled down the Marin County coast through the beautiful coastline of Point Reyes, which contains approximately 80 miles of shoreline. It was a nice drive to take on a beautiful day.
Things to do in Point Reyes – visit the town of Point Reyes Station
When we arrived at the little town of Point Reyes Station, it was hopping! Of course, it was Labor Day weekend and the weather was beautiful. Everyone was out enjoying the weather and the long weekend. While the railroad that gave this town its name is long gone, there is plenty to enjoy here. The focus is on locally produced artisanal and organic foods, with art galleries, gourmet restaurants, and boutiques – all with a small-town feel. Cowgirl Creamery was one of the busiest places, and they had cheese sampling. We walked out with some nice blue cheese, and a couple of others to snack on later. The town itself had a few unique gift stores where we were able to pick up a couple of fun gifts. A couple of other stops we really enjoyed were Toby’s Feed Barn and the Bovine Bakery
