The Beautiful Tahoe Area

    The Beautiful Tahoe Area

    Tahoe Area

We covered a lot of ground in the Tahoe area in two days!  And we enjoyed a fun-filled weekend with family and new friends up in the Tahoe area.

    Tahoma

Our home base was Tahoma – we had wonderful hosts, and it turns out they share my love of good wine.   This is a small but nice little town on the West Shore of Lake Tahoe.   It is right in the middle of wonderful places to see and things to do.  Sugar Pine State Park is 5 minutes away.   There is biking, boat rentals, hanging out at the lake (swimming if you can brave the cold water), hiking & more.

    Fanny Bridge

Saturday we took a drive around the Tahoe area into Tahoe City and wandered around a bit.  Tahoe City is home to the historic Fanny Bridge, which received its name from all of the fannies that can be seen from the road as gawkers stare over the edge into the cool waters.  Located over the only outlet of Lake Tahoe (into the Truckee River), it is a great place to see the fish swimming below.

    Tahoe City

We wandered a bit and ended up in Tahoe City and visited a few places.  First stop, Tahoe House Bakery.  We purchased some freshly baked goodies to start our day.   John and I were on the search for the bath shop we found years ago as we loved their massage bar (not oil, but a soft, delicious smelling bar for massaging).  This place is called Lather & Fizz, and they have great products and are so nice every time we go in.  For lunch, we wandered into Blue Agave, a Mexican Restaurant.  They had a great outdoor patio and lots of people, and it looked promising.  But we were disappointed.  The service was super slow, our food arrived luke-warm at best, and it wasn’t all that great.

Sunday morning we went to the Fire Sign Cafe in Tahoe City, a local favorite that is worth sharing.  There were 6 of us and we all had wonderful meals.  The eggs benedict was highly recommended and it didn’t disappoint.  And if you order french toast or pancakes, you must order their special hot homemade blue-raspberry sauce.  Yum!

    Donner Lake

    Donner Lake

Another day we wandered more of the Tahoe area.  We had the pleasure of attending a 3-year-old birthday party on Donner Lake at West End beach.  Of course, it was beautiful weather, a weekend, and crowded, but it is a great beach to hang out with family.  For those who are brave enough (the young ones), there is a roped-off swimming area.  Picnic tables and plenty of shade.

Yet another fun & packed weekend enjoyed in the Tahoe Area!
