Most importantly – find the right wine for you!
While we are discussing what is the best wine with turkey, you have to remember that if you don’t like a particular variety of wine, it doesn’t matter if it is what is recommended. For example, I’m not a huge fan of Pinot Noir, which is one of the top recommendations for the best wine with turkey. So I’ll skip that choice. It’s personal prefe-rence above all else. Every wine lover has their own personal favorite, but I can’t think of any other that tops the beauty and complexity found in our California vintages.
You know what they say – the best wine is found in California! They are our favorite and they will make any occasion more enjoyable. You can’t go wrong with a nice glass of California wine! And the choices at the California Wine Club are awesome!

Some of the best wine with turkey choices …
Sparkling Wine for your turkey/wine pairing
Sparkling wine is a great choice for all sorts of parties, from Thanksgiving dinner to your Christmas party. The best part? It’s versatile! It won’t overwhelm any of your dishes and will complement them all.
Red Wine for your wine and turkey pairing
Pinot Noir is a great choice for those who enjoy eating food with their wines. It typically has high acidity and light body, meaning it works well together no matter what dish you’re serving up!
Zinfandel is the ultimate holiday wine. It has bold, red flavors that are sure to stand up against any dish on your table while still being able to take whatever stuffing or dressing you throw at them (or dare we say…cranberries?).
Merlot is a wine that pairs well with a lot of foods. It has softer tannins and compliments many types of food – including your turkey feast!
There are other reds, mostly the reds that are considered “less bold” that would also be some of the best red wine to pair with turkey. Just remember, you want your wine to compliment your meal, not overpower it.
White Wine – some of the best wine to serve with turkey
Viognier is a beautiful and subtle white wine that will blend in seamlessly with the Thanksgiving and Christmas crowd. It has all of those qualities we look for during this time-honored tradition: it’s polite, and friendly even though you can’t taste any sweetness at all on its palate (which might be why they call these wines “nose appropriate”). The perfect holiday guest!
Riesling is the perfect wine to enjoy during your holiday dinner. It has an elegant, yet food-friendly acidity that will help you enjoy any bready stuffing without issue while also being able to hold. Now you have to watch which one you choose, as some can be a little sweeter. You want to choose a drier Riesling.
Chardonnay – Make it a lean, non-buttery Chard with just a kiss of oak. That way it will be a cheerleader for the stuffing, rather than a queen trying to take over the party. Now my favorite white wine is a buttery Chardonnay, but some can be too strong and overwhelm your dinner instead of complimenting it.
Gewürztraminer – Hard to pronounce but easy to love (say geh-VURTZ-trah-meen-ur). Again, dry will be better than sweet. Spicy Gewürz is tailor-made for stuffing of all kinds, from Mushroom/Sourdough to Garlic/Kale to Apple/Sausage.
Christmas Ham Wine Pairing
Some of you prefer Ham dinner for Christmas. The above pairings will work with your ham holiday dinner. You can also serve a slightly fruiter wine with ham – so your sweeter Riesling or Gewürztraminer.
