Great RV Park in Amador County
Amador County is a great place for a close-by weekend escape from the Sacramento area. On this trip we stayed in Plymouth, parking the motorhome at the 49er Village RV Resort. This is a really nice park – large in size and takes large RV’s. We met several very nice people staying there also. We will definitely return! It was a hot weekend, but we had a good time. The park has two swimming pools, a jacuzzi, a store & café and more, and the most important – 50Amp service to run the air conditioning! Update – they have raised the rates at this park after changing ownership, so we don’t recommend it as much anymore. There are other options in the area.
Jackson
We took a drive our first day into Jackson and wandered around. One of our favorite things to do in other towns is visiting Ace Hardware stores (fun home & garden decor), and unique little stores..and we found a few of those. We had lunch at the Highway House Restaurant – great burgers and sandwiches.
Exploring Amador County
We decided to try our luck at Jackson Rancheria Casino for a couple of hours. I came out with the same amount of money I started with, except for the cash I dropped in the gift shop on a couple of cute items for our house & motorhome. The casino was packed as it was a Saturday afternoon, so we were limited as to the slot machines available to play. We’re big spenders – we play the penny machines – LOL!
We drove into the downtown district of Jackson on our way back to camp and arrived about a quarter to 5 on Saturday and everything was closed, even though most of them said they were open until 5. So no old town shopping that day. Bummer!
Sutter Creek
Sunday we went with our friends to Sutter Creek for wine tasting. Sutter Creek is a cute little Gold Rush town with
lots to do. We stopped first at Scott Harvey winery, and I purchased their Barbera. Then we went to Bella Grace, where I found another delicious Barbera (guess I was in a Barbera mood), along with their delicious Garlic Olive Oil. I love cooking with their olive oils – great flavors. There are a lot more wineries to visit in Sutter Creek, but two was our limit that day. There are a lot of great California wines in this town.
When exploring Amador County we then tried out the little café called Buffalo Chips in Sutter Creek. Everything we ordered was delicious – hamburger (John always orders one), BLT, ham & cheese. But alas, we were too full for ice cream – I know, hard to believe but true.
